1. Cedar isn’t just for building anymore

This weekend one of my friends came to visit me and since it was the first time he had ever been to the Pacific Northwest, we of course had to have salmon. He kept talking about this great recipe he had back at home. Unfortunelty, it was back at home… So we went to Barnes and Noble to look it up. After about 30 mins of looking around for the book, I finally convinced him to ask for it. The book was in a completely different section of the store. But, after we finally found the book and copied down the recipe, we headed off to the store to buy ingredients.

This recipe called for you to cook the fish on a cedar plank. Now I know that this is all the rage for cooking fish right now but I had never actually done it before. Other than making the whole house smell of fresh cut wood, the salmon tasted great!

If you are going to try and cedar plank fish at home, make sure that you soak the plank in water first so that you dont start a fire, and cook the fish over indirect heat. This means that you turn one side of your BBQ on and leave the side with the actual fish turned off so that the fish cooks over very low heat. The cedar woods adds a smoky, woodsy taste to the fish and it really makes it feel like you are BBQing.

Add some grilled asparagus, roasted potatoes and a baby green salad and you are set!

    Happy Eating!
